Description

The Concise History of American Social Policy: Blueprint of a Nation offers readers a compelling overview of the pivotal events and legislative landmarks that have shaped social policies in the United States from the Revolutionary War to the present.

The third textbook in a three-volume set, this text synthesizes 27 chapters from its predecessors, tracing an intricate tapestry of policy evolution against the backdrop of America's dynamic history. Integrated within these chapters is additional fresh coverage of political scandals and detailed descriptions of all 12 wars the U.S. has been engaged in throughout the nation's history. This information provides readers with vital context and insight into the formation and emergence of key social policies.

This volume presents an array of social policy areas, each examined through the lens of significant laws, Supreme Court decisions, and social events. With attention to detail and a commitment to neutrality, the book deftly navigates the interplay between legislation and major historical occurrences, illuminating the often-reactive nature of policymaking and its consequences. Insights into how key issues and marginalized populations have been influenced by shifting political, social, and economic forces are provided in clear, concise language, placing the complex world of American social policy into a digestible and relatable context.

The Concise History of American Social Policy: Blueprint of a Nation is ideal for courses and programs in social work, sociology, political science, and American history.
