This is the story of SΕ«n WοΏ½kΕng the Monkey King's evolution from his birth out a stone to his full enlightenment as the Buddha's disciple, based on the Chinese classic Journey to the West.
A lonely macaque, Monkey, becomes so beloved by his kin that they name him their King. But he cannot find satisfaction within the mossy walls of their cave. He leaves in search of everlasting life-and finds it, along with powers like flying, fighting, and invincibility. Soon he receives an invitation to dwell in Heaven as a god-which he accepts, only to wreak havoc and chaos throughout the divine realm. Only the Buddha himself can put a stop to Monkey's antics by pinning him under a mountain.
Hundreds of years later, the macaque finally gets a chance at freedom. But only if he'll guide a humble monk along an epic pilgrimage to Vulture Peak-battling hungry monsters and clever demons the whole way-to fetch the Buddhist scriptures.
