Description

In June 1824, Owen Reardon and William Tydey were tried and convicted for the murder of John Street at Abbottsfield Farm in Glenorchy, Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania).

The crime occurred in July 1823. The prosecution's case was largely based on circumstantial evidence and witness testimonies.

One witness, James Pratt, testified that Tiday had confessed to the murder and implicated Reardon as an accessory. Another witness, James Alexander, recounted a conversation where Tiday admitted to using an axe to commit the crime. Both Reardon and Tiday were found guilty and sentenced to death.

Both edventually received the Kings Pardon.
