Description

The New York Times bestseller--part of the expanded universe based on the award-winning video game series Halo!

2524. Harvest is a peaceful, prosperous farming colony on the very edge of human-controlled space. But humanity has unknowingly trespassed on holy ground--straying into the path of the aggressive, theocratic empire known as the Covenant. What begins as a chance encounter between an alien privateer and a human freighter soon catapults all of mankind into a struggle for its very existence.

But humanity is also currently locked in a bitter civil war of its own: the Insurrection. With resources strained to the breaking point, the ultimate survival of Harvest's citizens falls to a squad of battle-weary UNSC Marines and their inexperienced colonial militia trainees. In this unlikely group of heroes, one will stand above the rest--a young Marine staff sergeant named Avery Johnson....

Best Halo book I've read so far. Written really well for a Halo Book.

Halo Contact Harvest follows the first contact story between humanity and the covenant (the theoretical alliance of alien races that you play against in the first person shooter video games Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Reach and Halo 3 ODST.)

Told from several point of view characters; most notably that of Sergeant Avery Johnson (don't worry, I know what the book worms like) and two artificial intelligence characters named Sif and Mack, some aliens (a grunt, an engineer, Tartarus my boi, the prophet of truth before he becomes the prophet) and you even get treated to several pieces of text about the one, the only, the legendary; JENKINS! (Pre-flood) Turns out he's a farmer lol.

The only downer in the book, which is basically the same throughout all the Halo books, is that the author uses military jargon and the correct names of things that not every readers understands. Like, I can't even think of an example, but instead of calling the object what it is, I think it would have been better if the author just described the object. That way I might have understood what he was talking about. Because I'm too lazy to search up the words that I don't understand, I just read over it and let myself stay confused about what was going on through certain bits of texts.

Thoroughly enjoyable experience. Joseph Statten really hit the nail on the head with this installment in the Halo franchise, and I wish that I'd read it sooner.
