Description

Best Spiritual Literature is the new name of The Orison Anthology, under the same editorship and publisher, and it continues the same mission to collect the finest spiritually engaged writing that appeared in periodicals in the preceding year. In addition to reprinted material, each year the anthology also includes new, previously unpublished works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry by the winners of The Best Spiritual Literature Awards. The award winners for Vol. 9 were Sionnain Buckley (fiction), selected by Jacinda Townsend; Kristin Kovacic (nonfiction), selected by Kazim Ali; and Merryn Rutledge (poetry), selected by Diamond Forde.

About the Author

Luke Hankins is the founder and editor of Orison Books. He is the author of two full-length poetry collections, Radiant Obstacles and Weak Devotions, as well as a chapbook, Testament (Texas Review Press, 2023). He is also the author of a collection of essays, The Work of Creation, and is the editor or co-editor of several anthologies, including Poems of Devotion: An Anthology of Recent Poets and Between Paradise & Earth: Eve Poems (with Nomi Stone). A volume of his translations from the French of Stella Vinitchi Radulescu, A Cry in the Snow & Other Poems, was published by Seagull Books in 2018.Nathan Poole is the author of two books of fiction, Father Brother Keeper (Sarabande Books, 2015), a collection of stories selected by Edith Pearlman for the 2013 Mary McCarthy Prize and long-listed for the Frank O'Connor Award, and Pathkiller as the Holy Ghost, selected by Benjamin Percy as the winner of the 2014 Quarterly West Novella Contest. He has been awarded The Narrative Prize, a Milton Fellowship at Image, and a Joan Beebe Fellowship at Warren Wilson College.Karen Tucker is the author of the novel Bewilderness (Catapult, 2021), which was selected as a "Dazzling Debut" by the American Booksellers Association and was longlisted for the Aspen Words Literary Prize. Tucker's short fiction can be found in The Missouri Review, The Yale Review, Boulevard, EPOCH, Tin House, and elsewhere. The recipient of an Elizabeth George Foundation Grant for Emerging Writers and a PEO Scholar Award, she teaches fiction and creative nonfiction at UNC Chapel Hill.
