About the Author

Marie Mele, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason University. She obtained her Ph.D. in criminal justice from Rutgers University and her M.S. in justice, law, and society from American University. Before joining academia, Dr. Mele worked as a program specialist with the National Institute of Justice and a victim advocate with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. Her research on victimization and intimate partner violence has been published in Journal of Family Violence, Journal of Crime and Justice, and Journal of Current Issues in Crime, Law, and Law Enforcement.
