PRODUCT INFORMATION

Description

This book is by far the most in-depth story with many historic images (mostly very early newspaper and archival pictures, but also the unique artwork on this cover) telling the truth of how and when the sport of basketball came into existence in Springfield, Massachusetts; ultimately in the fall and winter of 1891. It comes from years of research by a University of Kansas Journalism graduate who became friends with much of the Naismith (James, who started the University of Kansas Jayhawk basketball program, and was their first coach) family in the process of researching the man, James Naismith, and this book and others. The author also travelled everywhere James Naismith lived and travelled, from Canada to America, in relation to inventing the sport and thereafter, and was responsible for the development of a bronze statue now found in each of the primary Naismith communities of Almonte, Ontario (now called Mississippi Mills) Canada, Springfield, MA, and Lawrence, Kansas. The Mysteries involve tradition versus truth. This author spent decades researching and separating truth that could be confirmed from traditional beliefs for you! Enjoy this unique piece of world sports history!
