Robert "Willie" Pickton was convicted of six counts of second-degree murder. His crimes involved the murders of sex workers and drug users from Vancouver's seediest streets. The investigation into his activities began over 22 years ago when police started searching his farm. Pickton strangled his victims and fed their remains to his pigs. Shockingly, he once bragged to an undercover police officer that he had killed a total of 49 women The remains or DNA of 33 women were found on Pickton's farm. Health officials even issued a tainted meat advisory to neighbors who might have bought pork from his farm, concerned that it might contain humanremains. In 2007, Pickton was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, with a maximum parole ineligibility period of 25 years. His case made international headlines due to its gruesome nature and the high number of victims.
Unfortunately, Robert Pickton recently died after being assaulted by another inmate in prison. He was 74 years old at the time of his death.
