Using an interdisciplinary focus, this book combines the research disciplines of philosophy, business management and sustainability to aid and advance both scholarly and practitioner understanding of sustainability management and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As businesses and society continue to transition towards further sustainable development and corporate social responsibility, the key challenge faced is in rethinking the philosophy of management and business ethics to achieve this change in deep and lasting ways.
Jacob Dahl Rendtorff explores the philosophical foundations of business ethics, economics and sustainability through four key themes:
“'Philosophy of Management and Sustainability is a very important subject. This book is a must-read for academics, scholars and practitioners of CSR, business ethics and sustainability.'”
-- Eric Pezet, Professor of Management, UniversitΓ© Paris Nanterre
During the 1960s, Japanese philosopher Tomonobu Imamichi (1922-2012) invented the discipline of eco-ethica, says Rendtorff, not only as bioethics or environmental ethics, but as a general ethics of the need for the good life on the planet. Therefore, he argues, the philosophy of management and sustainability can be and should be part of the search for responsible collective ethics and group ethics. He explores that dimension in sections on from corporate social responsibility and business ethics to sustainable development goals; the philosophy of management and ethical economics of sustainability; foundations of philosophy of management, ethics, and sustainability; and the responsible management of sustainability. -- Copyright 2019 Portland, OR
