Description

Miami, Florida 1926

Between the heady days of the Florida land boom and its inevitable bust, a short period existed where those coming late to the game still dreamed of getting rich. Miami is the Magic City where it is believed anyone can become a millionaire. Della's handsome young husband, Art, is one of those dreamers. His hopes hang on a fabulous party to which he and Della have been invited. All Miami-the glamorous, wealthy, famous, and notorious-will be drinking, dancing to the latest jazz tunes, and completely ignoring Prohibition. Miami is not only a magical place, but also the "leakiest" city in America. Bootleggers pour booze into Miami like the Everglades dumping water into the Gulf. For Art and Della, this isn't just a party. It's the last chance to save their future. A millionaire dangles a tantalizing deal, but at what price?

Reminiscent of Fitzgerald's Great Gatsby, Miami Interlude takes the reader on a search for truth, deliverance, and a murderer during one of Miami's most notorious periods. Join Della as she does her best to survive.

About the Author

Linda Bennett Pennell has been in love with the past for as long as she can remember. Anything with a history, whether shabby or majestic, recent or ancient, instantly draws her in. It probably comes from being part of a large extended family that spanned several generations. Long summer afternoons on her grandmother's wraparound porch or winter evenings gathered by the fireplace were filled with stories both entertaining and poignant. Of course, being set in the American South, those stories were also peopled by some very interesting characters, some of whom have found their way into Linda's work.Linda resides in the Houston, Texas area with her sweet husband and an adorable Labradoodle, Lulu, who is quite certain she's a little girl, not a dog.
